Mark a member as spam

If you notice a member behaving inappropriately or posting unwanted content on your Made Open platform, you can mark their account as spam. This helps keep the community safe and ensures that all members have a positive experience.

When to mark a user as spam

You should mark a user as spam if they:

  • Post irrelevant, offensive, or inappropriate content.
  • Send unsolicited messages or links.
  • Attempt to promote products, services, or scams unrelated to the community.
  • Repeatedly create fake or duplicate profiles.

If you’re unsure whether a user should be reported, you can contact your Made Open Nominated Individual for advice before taking action.

How to mark a user as spam

Find the member

Navigate to the user via the Search Members section in your CMS by searching their name.

Select the ‘Mark as Spam’ option

Use the 'bin icon' to the right hand side and choose Mark as Spam.

Confirm your action

A confirmation box will appear asking if you’re sure you want to mark this member as spam.

Select Confirm to proceed.

The account is flagged and removed

Once confirmed, the member will be flagged as spam, their profile will be deactivated, and any posts or activities they created will be hidden from the platform.

What happens next

  • The user will no longer be able to log in or interact on the platform.
  • Their content will be hidden from public view but retained in the system for admin review.
  • Platform admins can later review or permanently delete the account if necessary.

Restoring a user marked as spam

If a user has been marked as spam by mistake, a platform administrator can restore them:

  1. Go to the Members section in the CMS.
  2. Locate the user under the Spam or Inactive list.
  3. Select Restore Member to reactivate their account.
